Control Panel Familiarization for Field Technicians
Modern power generation equipment is only as reliable as the technician operating it. While many field technicians have hands-on mechanical experience, control panels often present a gap between basic operation and true system proficiency. This course is designed to close that gap.
The Control Panel Familiarization course equips experienced field technicians with the practical knowledge and confidence needed to safely navigate, interpret, and operate a wide range of generator and power system control panels encountered in the field. Students will move beyond button-pushing and learn to understand what the panel is telling them — and why.
Through structured instruction and real-world scenarios, participants will learn to:
Interpret common control panel layouts and logic structures
Navigate HMI screens and analog/digital interfaces
Understand alarms, shutdowns, and fault indicators
Safely perform start-up, shutdown, and transfer operations
Recognize protective functions and system safeguards
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers about panel conditions
The course emphasizes pattern recognition across manufacturers, helping technicians quickly orient themselves when encountering unfamiliar equipment. Rather than focusing on one brand, this training builds foundational understanding that applies across platforms.
By the end of the course, technicians will not only operate control panels — they will understand them. The result is improved confidence, safer operation, reduced troubleshooting time, and greater value to employers and customers alike.
