Generator Service Technician Course

Program Overview

The PGI 8-Week Generator Service Technician program is an intensive, hands-on workforce training experience designed to prepare students for entry-level field service careers in the standby and industrial power generation industry.

This program blends classroom instruction with practical lab application to build real-world competency in:

  • Generator system fundamentals

  • Engine and alternator operation

  • Electrical and control systems

  • Troubleshooting under load conditions

  • Safety and professional field conduct

Students will learn how generator systems operate as complete power solutions — not just individual components — and will develop the diagnostic mindset required in the field.

Training emphasizes:

  • System-level thinking

  • Safe work practices

  • Mechanical and electrical integration

  • Real-world failure scenarios

  • Employer readiness and professionalism

Graduates leave with a foundational understanding of how power is produced, controlled, and protected — and what it takes to support critical infrastructure when it matters most.

Who Should Apply

This program is designed for individuals who are serious about building a skilled trade career in power generation.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are new to the generator industry and want a structured entry point

  • Have mechanical or electrical aptitude and want to develop specialized skills

  • Are transitioning careers and looking for a stable, in-demand field

  • Prefer hands-on work over desk work

  • Take safety, professionalism, and accountability seriously

No prior generator experience is required. What matters most is work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
